April 19, 2006 - Sparks Welcomes Korean Delegation
The guests include: Jong-Hern, Lee the Chief of the Korea Animal Improvement Association, Kiyoon Chang, DVM, MS the Senior Veterinary Officer with the Korean Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Byung-Joon Chang, DVM, PhD a professor at Konkuk University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, and Yong Keun Ban an agricultural specialist with the United States Embassy in Korea. While in the Alabama, they will meet with Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries and USDA officials, visit area farms, examine local herds, and learn more about what measures are in place to protect consumers. “We appreciate them making the trip to Alabama to find out more about our cattle industry,” said Sparks. “Alabama ranks 14th in cattle production in the nation. We consider it an honor to have them visit and hope that they will become comfortable with what they learn here. It is the Department of Agriculture’s responsibility to make sure that our food is safe for our consumers. We want Koreans who eat Alabama beef to feel just as secure as we do about it here in Alabama.”
