Four years ago, Sparks’ grandmothers, who are now 97 and 93 years old, held a Bible for him as the late Dekalb County Probate Judge Paul Thomas swore him in as Commissioner. Sparks will be accompanied by his daughter, two sons, and grandson as he takes the Oath of Office for his second term. "General Clark has been a good friend to me and it is truly an honor to have a national hero be a part of this special day," said Sparks. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and his commitment to try and improve our way of life here in the United States." "Ron Sparks is the epitome of a true public servant," said General Clark. "In the four years he's been in office, Ron has transformed the Department of Agriculture and Industries into a cutting edge, consumer oriented agency. He's a real innovator and I am proud to be a part of this ceremony for such a forward thinking leader and dedicated servant of the people of Alabama."
