Hungry for a "small" snack? Bud has the "best" answer ...his cookies! It doesn't get much better in Alabama than diving into a bag of Bud's Best Cookies! Available in a multitude of flavors, Bud's Best Cookies can satisfy any sweet tooth. Bud's bite-sized cookies are perfect for kids of all ages and range in flavors from chocolate chip to vanilla crème, oatmeal, lemon, strawberry, and even coconut and Butterfinger.
Bud Cason, owner and creator of Bud's Best Cookies, began his business in 1991, but not after a long road of creating the perfect, bite-sized cookie. Working in his aunt's bakery as early as 12 years old, Bud became inspired to one day own his own cookie factory. Prior to starting Bud's Best in 1991, Bud Cason owned and ran Greg's Cookies in Birmingham and Bishop Baking in Cleveland, Tennessee.
He sold both businesses in 1986 and had a non-compete agreement with the purchasers for 5 years. As soon as the non-compete agreement expired, he did what he had always wanted to do, start up a cookie company from scratch.
He began Bud's Best Cookies in 1991 in an 89,000 square foot facility located in Birmingham. The first cookies were sold in April of 1993 and sales for that year were an impressive 1.8 million. Bud Cason developed a whole new concept with his "bite size cookies" proving that a more upscale value cookie could sell as successfully as any other established cookie in the market.
Revenues in the late 90's began to grow to over 15 million and revenues continue to rise even today up into the 20 millions. Since 1995, Bud's Best has been contract manufacturing for a national baking company and won the "Co-packer of the Year Award" in 1998 for manufacturing excellence, as just one of their many accomplishments.
An additional 47,000 square feet of warehouse space was added to the factory in 2001. After its completion in 2002, sandwich cookie production capability doubled from four thousand to eight thousand sandwich cookies per minute! The total output of cookies has grown to over 1 million cookies per hour.
Many distinguished Alabamians have recognized Bud's Best Cookies' excellence and have awarded them appropriately in the following ways: Bud Cason was selected as Small Business Man of the year for Shelby County in 1998, Bud's Best Cookies was voted by the Birmingham Business Journal as one of the best small businesses in Birmingham for 1998 and 1999 and Bud's Best Cookies was presented Business of the Year Award by the Leadership Alumni Association of Shelby County.
